Setup Guides

A good viewing setup depends on several parts working together: the device, player, network and source. Start with the symptom you can observe, then change one variable at a time. These guides help you ask better questions before replacing equipment or paying for a new service.

If playback buffers

First note whether the problem affects one app, one programme or everything you watch. Keep the device and quality setting consistent when comparing connections. A faster broadband plan is not automatically the answer to a weak local connection or a media server that is struggling to convert a file.

Ethernet vs Wi-Fi for TV Streaming explains how to run a useful comparison and when to investigate beyond the wireless link.

If a personal movie plays differently on another device

Check what the receiving player supports. Video, audio and subtitles can each affect the playback path. A server may send compatible media directly, change its container or convert an unsupported track.

Direct Play vs Transcoding explains those differences and the information to collect before upgrading your server.

If you are setting up a new service

Identify the exact device and app first. Confirm that the service supports that combination and your location, then check permitted simultaneous streams, duration, total cost and renewal terms. Keep any app licence separate from the content-service purchase.

IPTV Player vs Subscription is a useful starting point. Follow it with our IPTV compatibility and subscription checklist.

Keep a simple troubleshooting record

Write down the device model, app version, connection type, affected file or programme and the original settings. Record the result of each change, including changes that did not help. That short record makes it easier to restore your setup and give support a specific description of the problem.
