High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC, or H.265) is the latest video compression standard developed by the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG).  HEVC is able to compress video up to twice as efficiently as AVC, letting you encode a video in a file that is about half the size of AVC at the same quality level. In Samsung latest models, many Samsung Smart TVs support HEVC decoding and nearly all 4K/UHD Samsung TVs support HEVC decoding. That’s to say, many Samsung Smart TVs don’t support H.265/HEVC codec video still.

Searching on Google, you will see many Samsung Smart TV H.265/HEVC video playback issues:

"This is my current setup: Synology DS213+ (DSM 5.2).
PMS v0.9.15.6.
Samsung UE40JU6440 (With built-in Plex client) I seem to be having issues trying to stream an x265 encoded stream using Plex. I get the message that “This server is not powerful enough.”

"Will there ever be a firmware update that recognizes the h.265 HEVC codec? My Samsung TV
Model: UN32EH5300FXZA"

One of the ways to play H.265/HEVC video on Samsung Smart TV is to use Plex. The lates Plex should support x265 codec. If you play H.265 video via Plex on Samsung Smart TV, Plex can transcode H.265 video to your Samsung Smart TV supported codec video. However, if your Samsung Smart TV is old model or doesn’t support H.265 at all, this way often is out of work.

The better way get HEVC X265 video files to playback on Samsung Smart TV is to transcode H.265 to H.264 video in advance then you can play your H.265 video on Samsung TV via Plex or USB.
